Lunchtime in The Lanes: Cloud9’s Top Picks4 min read
Not sure what to do for lunch? Here at Cloud9, we are lucky enough to be situated right in the heart of Brighton, nestled within the city’s famous Lanes. This vibrant, Bohemian area of Brighton provides a food culture that is as colourful as the city itself. There’s so much to choose from with cuisines ranging from Italian to Japanese to English. Whether you’re after an elegant restaurant meal or just a good quality sandwich, there’s something for everybody as independent coffee shops sit alongside big-name restaurants. Handy takeaways also provide for when you have less time on your hands.
With so much choice, deciding where to go can feel overwhelming. That’s why we’ve asked our team at Cloud9 to tell us about their favourite places to eat in Brighton. From a quick coffee before work to a filling lunch that will keep you going all afternoon, here are just some of the amazing places you could try.
For When You Just Want A Coffee Or A Quick Bite
Sometimes all you want for lunch is a coffee and a good sandwich. Brighton is full of artisan cafes that serve this purpose perfectly.
John recommends Breakfast at Tiffany’s because of their great food, but also their great service. With super-friendly and efficient staff, this spot has become a regular for John.
For more of a lunch vibe, but still with good coffee, you should try the North Laine Café. This is one of Brighton’s most popular brunch spots, and for good reason. Riya tells us how their falafel sandwich is delicious, as the quality of their sourdough bread is top-notch. For a relaxed vibe and delicious food, the North Laine Café is perfect.
If coffee isn’t your thing, there’s still somewhere for you, as Ikigai Coffee, recommended by Muskaan, is well-known for its excellent matcha drinks. Plus, if you’re feeling peckish, she says their honey toast is “crispy, buttery and so pillowy soft on the inside. A true breakfast delight”.
Finally, if all you’re really fussed about is the sandwich, Saoirse tells us how you must try The Deli. With a wide variety of fillings made fresh every day, their sandwiches provide something for everybody. The sandwiches are also very filling, so you don’t have to worry about being hungry later in the day.

For Something A Bit More Filling
If you’re after more than just a sandwich for lunch, Brighton’s food scene is also full of spots where you can enjoy a proper meal that will fill you up perfectly for the rest of the workday. Here are some of the recommendations from our team.
If Japanese food is your thing, Muskaan is back with another recommendation, this time it’s Goemon Ramen Bar. Perfect for a cold day, this restaurant serves delicious hot bowls of ramen, perfect for when you want something hearty but don’t have hours to spare. Their quick and friendly service makes it perfect for during your lunch break.
If you’d prefer to try Malaysian cuisine, Sai recommends Roti King. This restaurant provides a unique experience because you can watch the chefs make the roti right in front of you. It provides dinner and a show! Sai especially recommends the beef dishes.
If you fancy some food closer to home, then Marcus suggests Pasta Evangelists. While there is no physical restaurant in Brighton, you can order takeaway on their website and it will arrive in no more than fifteen minutes. According to Marcus, this is the best authentic Italian food outside of Italy.
Caroline puts forward Cote, a stylish French Brasserie. Cote is a great option for enjoying your lunch in a lovely setting, as the interior of the restaurant is beautifully decorated. Caroline highlights how this pleasant setting and delicious food come alongside great value for money.
If you’re willing to travel a little further afield, Matt recommends The Joker Pub. This pub can provide you with classic British cuisine, from burgers to pie, in generous portions. Although Matt’s top recommendation is the chicken wings, which he calls “the best wings ever”.

For When You’re In A Hurry
Don’t have time for a full-on, sit-down meal? No problem! We also have some recommendations for when you just need something quick to grab and go. Brighton has no shortage of speedy options that don’t compromise on taste.
Christina’s go-to lunch is to buy something from the café in Infinity Foods. Infinity Foods is known for its organic food, so you know you will be getting something fresh from them. According to Christina, their focaccia is amazing!
Alternatively, both Jordan and Jaiwin suggest Tortilla. The burritos here are tasty and filling, and the service is very fast so you’re never left waiting long. Jaiwin is a seasoned customer at Tortilla; he’s such a regular that the staff even remember his order! It just “hits the spot” according to him.

All of these recommendations from our team show just how diverse Brighton’s food options are. There’s something for everyone, and that is one of the reasons why we love our office location so much, because being surrounded by so many fantastic places to eat means every lunch break brings something new.
So next time you’re in Brighton and wondering where to eat, why not try one of these Cloud9 favourites?
